Charlotte joins the Eighth Doctor for more Doctor Who audio adventures in January

December 2, 2021 by Andrew Newton

Big Finish Productions has revealed that they will be marking 20 years of producing audio adventures for the Eighth Doctor in January 2022 with all new full-cast audio dramas, Doctor Who – The Eighth Doctor Adventures: Charlotte Pollard – The Further Adventures.

Charlotte ‘Charley’ Pollard’s adventure through space and time began in October 1930 when she smuggled herself aboard the R101 airship and met the Doctor and his TARDIS.  Since that time she’s faced Cybermen, ridden a Vortisaur, visited future Venice and even confronted the Devil himself.  Despite these frightening encounters Charlotte has not been dissuaded from travelling with the Doctor and in this upcoming special box set she is set for four more adventures.  These new tales are:

  • The Mummy Speaks! by Alan Barnes. –  Amongst the sideshow tents of the 1841 Carnaval de Paris, the Doctor and Charlotte discover an ancient talking Egyptian mummy.  Despite being dead for 4000 years the mummy warns of destruction and doom for the whole world.
  • Eclipse by Lisa McMullin –  The title doesn’t refer to a cosmic event of moons covering stars, rather it is the collective noun for a swarm of moths.  Though these aren’t normal Earth moths, these are the chittering, nightmarish Hellstrung and they are threatening the lives of the human settlers beneath the forest canopy on the planet Pteron.  It’s time for the Doctor and Charlotte to investigate what has riled up the Hellstrung.
  • The Slaying of the Writhing Mass by Eddie Robson –  The Doctor and Charlotte become trapped in a temporal traffic jam caused by time tourists who have come to witness the Slaying of the Writhing Mass.  This ancient alien entity enslaved the Ileikans race in its infancy but was slain by a stone thrown by the legendary hero Salan.  With nothing better to do than wait, the Doctor and Charlotte look into the Mass and find out if the legend was wrong.
  • Heart of Orion by Nicholas Briggs – A strange signal takes the duo to the Garazone System, a location where they once faced the Cybermen and foiled an attempt to change the course of an android/human war.  Now with people mysteriously vanishing, they find the war is far from over.

Paul McGann once more takes the role of the Eighth Doctor and India Fisher as Charlotte Pollard.  They are joined by Cyril Nri (Cucumber), Rakie Ayola (The Pact), Chris Jarman (Thunderbirds Are Go) and Shiloh Coke (This Way Up) and Michelle Livingstone as Deeva Janson.

Doctor Who – The Eighth Doctor Adventures: Charlotte Pollard – The Further Adventures is now available to pre-order as a collector’s edition CD box set (priced at £24.99) or digital download (at £19.99), exclusively from the Big Finish website.
