Child’s Play reboot director Lars Klevberg wants to make a sequel

July 31, 2020 by Liam Waddington

Lars Klevberg, director of last year’s Child’s Play reboot, still wants to make a sequel to his reimagining of the 1988 horror classic.

“It would be amazing to pull the crew and the actors back for another one, but MGM needs to get their stuff together and do it. It’s all there,” Klevberg shared on Instagram (via Bloody Disgusting).

However, despite Klevberg’s enthusiasm to return for another instalment, the recent reboot wasn’t a huge success for Orion/MGM as the film brought in a worldwide box office total of $45 million on a reported $10 million budget – meaning it may be unlikely that we will see a follow-up in the near future.

Although the future of the franchise on the big-screen remains unclear, the series is set to make a transition to the small screen as it was revealed earlier this year that Child’s Play creator Don Mancini is developing a TV series for Syfy with Brad Dourif confirmed to once again be returning to voice the titular doll Chucky.

What did you think of the Child’s Play reboot? Would you like to see a sequel? Let us know on Facebook or Twitter @flickeringmyth…

A contemporary re-imagining of the 1988 horror classic, CHILD’S PLAY follows Karen (Aubrey Plaza), a single mother who gifts her son Andy (Gabriel Bateman) a Buddi doll, unaware of its more sinister nature.

Child’s Play sees Lars Klevberg (Polaroid) directing a cast that includes Aubrey Plaza (Ingrid Goes West), Brian Tyree Henry (Widows), Gabriel Bateman (Lights Out), Beatrice Kitsos (The Exorcist), Ty Consiglio (Wonder) and Carlease Burke (Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle).
