Christian Bale confirms that he was never approached to play Batman again, or James Bond

December 4, 2014 by Thomas Roach

Christian Bale reveals in Esquire that he was not approached to play James Bond and had not spoken to anyone about returning as Batman in Zack Snyder’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. It had previously been reported before Ben Affleck was cast in the role that Bale was offered $50 million to reprise his role from The Dark Knight Trilogy, which he confirms was nonsense.

Asked whether he was considered to play James Bond before Daniel Craig was cast, Bale responded: “No. I’ve never heard of that. Equally untrue about them coming to me for Batman, before Ben Affleck…I think it’s the right decision. People were talking about this obscene amount of money they were saying was thrown at me. No. I didn’t have a single conversation with anybody about ever playing the role again. I think, probably with [Batman], it’s never [again], because I can’t help but feel it would just be a spoof on it. You know what I mean?”

So it looks like the rumours that Bale was asked to return for Warner’s rebooted DC universe are ludicrous. Did you want Bale to return as Batman? Let us know…
