Christopher Miller teases Han Solo Star Wars Anthology movie

May 4, 2016 by Justin Cook

One-half of the directing duo who will be helming 2018’s Han Solo Star Wars Anthology movie, Christopher Miller, took to Twitter today to tease the upcoming project. In honor of May the 4th, Star Wars Day, Miller posted the following picture…

Can't wait to get "shooting"!#MayThe4thBeWithYou pic.twitter.com/HlteYut6m0

Highlighted in the picture is the DL-44, Solo’s signature weapon that debuts alongside the character in Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope. In the original trilogy, Solo has modified the weapon by removing its barrel to facilitate his quick draw, which has gotten him out of many sticky situations. The heavy blaster pistol, produced by BlasTech Industries, is known to be one of the most powerful in the Star Wars universe.

Judging by Miller’s tweet, it sounds like filming for what will be the second Star Wars Anthology film, following this December’s Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, will get underway fairly soon.

Miller and his co-director Phil Lord have not announced the actor who will be taking over for Harrison Ford to play a younger version of Solo in the film yet, but recent rumours have identified Hail, Caesar! star Alden Ehrenreich as a clear frontrunner. Other actors Jack Reynor (Sing Street) and Taron Egerton (Kingsman: The Secret Service) are supposedly in the mix as well.

In the past, Miller and Lord have directed such major box office and critical successes as Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, 21 Jump Street, The Lego Movie and 22 Jump Street.

The untitled Han Solo spinoff movie will be written by Lawrence Kasdan (Star Wars: Episode V – The Empire Strikes Back) and his son, Jon, and is set for release on May 25th, 2018.
