Comic Book Review – Justice League of America #7.1: Deadshot

September 6, 2013 by admin

Robb Ghag reviews Justice League of America #7.1: Deadshot…

“Is it a death wish that makes Floyd Lawton put on the mask of Deadshot? Or is something more sinister pulling at Floyd when he becomes a relentless assassin who feels nothing for his victims? Discover the truth behind Deadshot’s secret history in this issue!”

Floyd Lawton is one of my favorite villains in the DC Universe.  One of the best episodes of Justice League Unlimited depicts Lawton and the “Suicide Squad” (renamed Task Force X) as they infiltrate the Watchtower.

In this storyline we travel back into Lawton’s history, well before he becomes the assassin Deadshot.  Well before he ever even picks up a gun.  Similar in scope to Batman, Lawton’s history involves the tragic death of his family.  From there as we know, it’s not long before a super villain can be born.

While this story leapfrogs from the past to present day, including the tie in to Forever Evil, it gives a great background into Deadshots transformation, from kid, to killer to assassin for hire.

The 3D cover again is amazing.  DC should be commended on finding just the right transformation for each villain this month.  With Deadshot it’s fairly simple, as when you think of this character, you immediately see down the barrel of a gun and the 3D cover definitely delivers.

Ultimately Deadshot has become more of a mainstay in the DC Universe, even emerging in the new Batman video games, and the upcoming Batman: Arkham Origins.  Also with his appearances in the DC animated shows and feature films, it’s easy to see why he’s a great villain.
