Comic Book Review – Powerpuff Girls Super Smash-Up #3

March 18, 2015 by Andrew Newton

Andrew Newton reviews Powerpuff Girls Super Smash-Up #3…

The Powerpuff Girls follow the monstrously mutated Dee Dee’s trail to the world of Cow and Chicken! Too bad Red Guy has gotten to her first! His plan? Make Dee Dee a superstar! Can Cow, Chicken and the Powerpuff Girls reach Dee Dee before she signs her life away?? Plus, a short story featuring The Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy…and a beauty pageant? That’s not gonna be pretty…

If you had said to me a couple of months ago that I would be reviewing a Powerpuff Girls comic I wouldn’t have believed you, but here I am now sat in front of my keyboard having read the latest issue of Powerpuff Girls Super Smash-Up.  But what do I actually think of this issue? Well, to be quite honest I actually found it quite entertaining and can see it being very popular with fans of Cartoon Network.

In this issue the Powerpuff Girls track Dee Dee down to the world of Cow and Chicken but discover that Red Guy has got hold of her first.  What are his plans for her? What will he do to the Powerpuff Girls and what are Cow and Chicken’s role in all this?

This comic has really stuck to the art stylings of the Cartoon Network favourites and Derek Charm seems to be having great fun with writing the story.  The use of characters from other cartoon series is a nice touch and all in all it’s good clean fun to read.

Also in this issue is a bonus short story featuring The Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy by Rachel Deering and drawn by Christine Larsen.  It’s a nice little short to put in at the end.

It’s nice to read stories like this from time to time and get in touch with your inner child.  I’d certainly read the next issue and maybe I won’t change the channel so quickly next time I’m flicking past Cartoon Network.
