Crisis on Infinite Earths showrunner wanted a Constantine and Swamp Thing team-up

April 4, 2020 by Gary Collinson

The CW’s big Arrowverse crossover Crisis on Infinite Earths was packed with cameos from DC shows past and present, with the showrunners seemingly granted the keys to the DC TV archive for the five-part event.

However, it seems the producers didn’t have carte blanche, as executive producer Marc Guggenheim has revealed that he was hoping to incorporate the cancelled DC Universe series Swamp Thing – specifically to pair up the titular monster with Matt Ryan’s John Constantine.

“I did want Swamp Thing to be a big part of the crossover, because – if you’ve got Constantine – to not have Constantine and Swamp Thing together is a missed opportunity,” Guggenheim told the Fake Nerd Podcast. “I’ll just say that, for a variety of different reasons, I couldn’t make that happen.”

Executive produced by James Wan (Aquaman), Swamp Thing launched on DC Universe last year to a positive response from fans and critics, but found itself cancelled just days after its premiere.

The character did appear via stock footage in the closing montage of Crisis, but an appearance alongside Constantine would surely have delivered a fan-pleasing moment – especially for those still upset over the series’ axing.
