Dan Aykroyd calls the Ghostbusters remake cast “magnificent”

January 30, 2015 by Gary Collinson

Yesterday we heard the slightly negative words from Ernie Hudson about the cast for Paul Feig’s all-female Ghostbusters remake, and today we have some thoughts from fellow original Ghostbuster Dan Aykroyd, who also co-wrote the original movie.

“The Aykroyd family is delighted by this inheritance of the Ghostbusters torch by these most magnificent women in comedy,” Aykroyd told The Hollywood Reporter. “My great grandfather, Dr. Sam Aykroyd, the original Ghostbuster, was a man who empowered women in his day, and this is a beautiful development in the legacy of our family business.”

Dan Aykroyd had been pushing for Ghostbusters 3 and was one of the first people to talk openly about the movie back in the early 90s. Recently he spoke about the chances of relaunching Ghostbusters as a Marvel-style universe before publicaly endorsing the all-female direction Paul Feig wanted to go.

Ghostbusters is set for release on July 22nd, 2016 and will be directed by Paul Feig (Bridesmaids) with a cast that includes Kristen Wiig (Bridesmaids), Melissa McCarthy (The Heat), Leslie Jones (We Are Family) and Kate McKinnon (Angry Birds).
