New details about Daredevil’s timeline, Easter eggs and second season possibility

February 26, 2015 by James Garcia

We’re now only about a month and a half away from the premiere of Marvel’s Daredevil Netflix series, and still know very little about the show itself and how it ties into the rest of Marvel’s ever-expanding cinematic universe. Thanks to new interviews conducted by Empire Magazine, however, we do have some new details regarding the show’s timeline and possible future.

With the series premiering in April, a whole month before the release of Avengers: Age of Ultron, it was to be expected that the show would take place before the events of the Earth’s Mightiest Heroes’ latest team-up. According to Marvel Television’s Emma Fleischer, the series will rewind the timeline back to the first Avengers film, and deal with the fallout of the Chitauri invasion:

“We are still part of the Marvel Universe, but we are not explicitly in that Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. world. We’re in our own corner. So the aliens came down and ruined the city, and this is the story of Hell’s Kitchen’s rebuild.”

As far as future appearances for the Man Without Fear in other Marvel properties, such as Captain America: Civil War, for example, showrunner Steven S. DeKnight and star Charlie Cox warn that Daredevil will be very self-contained, with Easter eggs that tie the character in to the rest of the Marvel world. Here’s what Cox had to say:

“A couple of very casual Easter egg reference to other superheroes… In this show, Daredevil feels special, like a big thing, not an everyday occurence. It’s not like he’s one of that lot…”

DeKnight certainly hopes that more connections can be explored in the future, and is hopeful for a second season:

“We certainly hope so! I mean, it’s totally up to Netflix. But I think it’s a phenomenal season and we certainly end up in a place where we could tell many other stories.”
