DC Films boss downplays rumour that four Batman movies will be released in 2019

2019 will mark the 80th anniversary of The Dark Knight, and a rumour has been doing the rounds this week that Warner Bros. and DC Films plan to celebrate the occasion by releasing FOUR Batman-themed movies that year in The Batman, Batgirl, Nightwing and Gotham City Sirens.

Now, it is possible, considering that The Batman has been delayed and is only likely to start production next year, and the other three are all in the early stages of development. However, judging by a tweet from DC Films co-chief Jon Berg, it’s probably safe to chalk this rumour down to rampant speculation…

Hey @geoffjohns why didn't you tell me we were releasing 4 Batman movies in 2019? Can we increase that to 10?

That being said, when you throw in the animated films, it wouldn’t be too much of a stretch for Warner Bros. to release ten Batman-related movies in a single year. We did see the Dark Knight seven times in 2016 in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Suicide Squad, Batman: Bad Blood, Justice League vs. Teen Titans, Batman: The Killing Joke, Batman: Return of the Caped Crusaders and LEGO DC Comics Super Heroes: Justice League: Cosmic Clash, and we’re looking at another six or seven this year too.

Rather than being sarcastic with his tweet, maybe Berg is actually making a genuine suggestion to Geoff Johns there…
