Dexter: New Blood Episode 6 Review – ‘Too Many Tuna Sandwiches’

December 16, 2021 by Liam Hoofe

Liam Hoofe reviews the sixth episode of Dexter: New Blood…

Dexter: New Blood has really started to get into its stride in recent weeks and after last week’s revealing ending, things are getting even more intense for Dexter this week.

Angela discovering Dexter’s real identity was the big end to last week’s episode but it kicked things off in this week’s encounter. Dexter revealed what had happened to Rita and Deb to Angela to throw her off the scent and quickly shifted to working out who had dropped him in it.

Molly Park finally becomes a focal point of the story this week, with Dexter beginning to realise that she may not be in Iron Lake just for a missing person. It seems like the show is playing with audiences when it comes to Park, who clearly knows more than she is letting on. She is proving herself to be fairly formidable and sharp, something which was highlighted in her encounters with Kurt Caldwell.

His darker side is becoming more and more apparent and his two encounters with Dexter this week were fantastic. The scenes at the cabin saw both men revealing their darkness to one another and it puts them on a collision course that promises to be riveting to watch. The incident between the two at the school, and Caldwell’s relationship with Harrison also made for brilliant viewing.

His time as a killer could be cut short though, with Angela discovering the body of her long-lost friend Iris at the end of the episode. The clues should lead her straight to Caldwell, and his encounter with Park and Dexter is bound to come back to haunt him. That said, I’m beginning to get an incline that there is more going on with him and his murders and I wouldn’t rule out someone else being involved.

The similarities between himself and the Trinity Killer are plain to see, with the show’s writers doing a fantastic job with the way his character interacts with the world.

Harrison, once again, was the star of the show though. The therapy scene featuring him and his father was easily the highlight of the episode and watching him quite literally snap in front of his entire school was also brilliant. The path his character is going to take over the next three or four episodes is becoming increasingly difficult to predict, with the presence of a blade earlier in the episode also raising questions about the character’s intentions.

Any scepticism surrounding Dexter: New Blood has well and truly gone. The show has really found its rhythm now and has become essential viewing. With four episodes to go, there are no doubt plenty of twists and turns left to come.
