Discussions underway about Orange Is the New Black sequel series

November 10, 2018 by Amie Cranswick

Just a couple of weeks after the announcement that Orange Is the New Black will come to an end with its seventh season, Lionsgate Television chairman Kevin Beggs has revealed that early discussions are underway about a possible sequel series.

“We’re really proud of the long run that Orange Is the New Black had,” said Beggs. “It remains one of Netflix’s most-watched shows. We’re ending on a high note. Keep in mind we own that series and will be distributing it for years to come. We’re already in discussions and, when the timing is right, we’ll talk further with [creator Jenji Kohan] about a potential sequel.”

According to THR’s sources, these discussions have been ongoing for some time now, although it’s said that there’s nothing immediate in the works.

Orange Is the New Black premiered on Netflix in 2013 and has gone on to become the streaming service’s most-watched Original Series, as well as receiving a host of accolades including four Emmy Award wins. The show’s seventh and final season will air on Netflix in 2019.
