Disney and Lucasfilm mapping out 15 years of post-Episode IX Star Wars movies

March 24, 2017 by Gary Collinson

Disney’s Bob Iger took part in a Q&A at the Scale – Future of Tech and Entertainment conference yesterday, during which he discussed several upcoming instalments in the Star Wars franchise.

We’ve already brought you his comments on the story for the Han Solo spinoff [see here], as well as confirmation that Star Wars: The Last Jedi won’t be altered as a result of Carrie Fisher’s passing [see here]. However, Iger did drop one other nugget of information, revealing that Lucasfilm is currently sitting down to map out its plans post-Star Wars: Episode IX.

“We are just starting to talk about what happens to Star Wars after IX,” said Iger. “We have a creative team thinking about what could be another decade and a half of Star Wars stories.”

Disney and Lucasfilm already have plans laid out through to 2020 with the release of an as-yet-untitled Anthology movie, so this latest phase would take us through to around 2035 – at which point we’d have 27 Star Wars movies, assuming they stick to the current release schedule and don’t up them to two movies per year!
