Disney has no plans for a live-action Frozen remake

March 20, 2017 by Gary Collinson

Disney scored another box office success this past weekend with Beauty and the Beast, the latest live-action adaptation of the studio’s animated back catalogue, which pulled in a whopping $350 million opening weekend around the globe.

Beauty and the Beast followed in the footsteps of Alice in Wonderland, Maleficent, Cinderella and The Jungle Book, and over the next few years we’ll see a host of releases, including The Lion King, Aladdin, Mulan, Dumbo, Peter Pan, Winnie the Pooh, Cruella and Tink; however, if you were hoping to see Frozen added to the list, we have some disappointing news for you.

Asked by Vulture about the possibility of Elsa, Anna and company getting the live-action treatment, Sean Bailey, president of Motion Picture Production at Walt Disney Studios said that there’s an unofficial boundary line around the year 2000, and that “We’re not looking at anything very recent, [anything] that still feels like it’s still the provenance of current Disney animation.”

So, that’s also bad news for any Chicken Little fans out there…

Frozen fans do have Frozen 2 to look forward however, although it’s currently without a release date. There’s also an ABC holiday special set to air later this year entitled Olaf’s Frozen Adventure.
