Doctor Who: The Fourth Doctor Adventures continue with Metamorphosis

February 10, 2024 by Andrew Newton

The Fourth Doctor faces powerful enemies both old and new in the new The Fourth Doctor’s Adventures full-cast audio dramas coming this June from Big Finish Productions. The Metamorphosis box set pits the Doctor (played by Tom Baker) and his companions against the might of the Toymaker and the Master.

The Metamorphosis box set features a star studded cast and joining Tom Baker are Christopher Naylor as Surgeon Lieutenant Harry Sullivan, Eleanor Crooks as UNIT secretary Naomi Cross, Annette Badland as the Toymaker, Geoffrey Beevers returns to the roll of the Master, Lydia West as Cahlo, Mark Gatiss as Dante Gabriel Rossetti and Nicholas Briggs as Padro.

Fourth Doctor Adventures – Metamorphosis features the following three fantastic tales:

Matryoshka by Aurora Fearnley – When the TARDIS is dragged to Earth by a strange and powerful force, the Doctor, Harry and Naomi know someone powerful must be behind it. When they encounter toy inventor, Lord Pearson, the owner of that power becomes clear. A game of hide and seek is simple, but also deadly when it’s played by the Toymaker.

The Caged Assassin by Matthew Sweet – Irradiated tigers in the TARDIS are not something you see everyday but when the Doctor, Naomi and Harry encounter Charles Jamrach, supplier of exotic animals, they realise it won’t be the most unusual thing they see. Amongst Jamrach’s menagerie hides a deadly terror, and it’s out for blood.

Metamorphosis by Lisa McMullin – The Doctor and his companions arrive on the planet Jaxus as people are vanishing, snatched by a mysterious fog.  When Naomi is taken by the fog to a prison run it turns out that it is all part of the Master’s latest sinister scheme. Can the Doctor stop his scheming and rescue his companions?

Director Jamie Anderson said: “Some of the Doctor’s enemies have an ‘I’m smarter than you‘ vibe about them and it’s always nice to beat villains who really think a lot of themselves. I’m very glad that the Doctor has got another chance to come up against the naughty Toymaker.”

Actor Annette Badland added: “I really engaged with this script and was intrigued from the outset by the idea of Russian dolls and changing personalities. The Toymaker is quite fascinating – complex, unpleasant, seductive!”

Doctor Who – The Fourth Doctor Adventures: Metamorphosis is available to pre-order now from Big Finish Productions as a 3-disc CD box set (with digital download) for £19.99, or as a digital download only for £16.99.
