Don Mancini’s Child’s Play TV series Chucky finds a home at Syfy

January 31, 2019 by Gary Collinson

The Child’s Play franchise may be getting remade for the big screen, but the original story looks set to continue in TV land thanks to Syfy, with the network teaming with creator Don Mancini to develop a sequel series entitled Chucky.

Mancini first announced his plans for a TV sequel to the seven Child’s Play movies back in February of last year, and the project has now found a home at Syfy after a multi-network bidding war. Mancini is writing the script, and executive producing with the franchise’s producer David Kirschner and Nick Antosca (The Act).

“I’ve long wanted to bring Chucky to television and Syfy is the perfect network for us,” said Mancini (via THR). “The show will be a fresh take on the franchise, allowing us to explore Chucky’s character with a depth that is uniquely afforded by the television series format, while staying true to the original vision that has terrorized audiences for over three decades now.”

“It’s very rare that you get the opportunity to bring such an iconic character to your network, let alone with the original creator attached,” added Bill McGoldrick, NBCU Cable Entertainment president of scripted. “We look forward to working with Don, David and Nick on putting their blood, sweat, and more blood into bringing the Chucky story to television.”

While we await more news on Chucky, the rebooted Child’s Play – which has no involvement from Mancini – is set to arrive in cinemas on June 21st 2019, with Aubrey Plaza (Ingrid Goes West) leading the cast.
