Doug Liman is open to return to Justice League Dark or another DC movie

January 22, 2018 by Gary Collinson

He may have walked from Justice League Dark, but it seems that director Doug Liman (The Bourne Identity, Edge of Tomorrow) hasn’t entirely given up his ambition of directing a DC movie.

During an interview with Screen Rant to promote his upcoming YouTube Red series Impulse (based on the third novel in Steven Gould’s Jumper book series), Liman was asked whether he’d be opening to returning to the director’s chair on Justice League Dark, or signing on for a different DC project:

“I would be open to it”, said Liman. “I have a very kind of contrarian approach to how I make things and I don’t want to do them the way other people have done them. You know, Impulse is an original take on superpower as you can imagine and still be satisfying. Because obviously there’s some things – you can be original and artsy and not. … Part of the reason cliches exist is because they’re satisfying to the audience so my challenge as a filmmaker has always been to do something that’s really original and still totally satisfying on a big commercial level, which I feel we’ve done with Impulse and I’d be really interested in doing that within the DC world if the right piece of material comes along.”

Liman – who is currently developing the Edge of Tomorrow sequel Live Die Repeat and Repeat – has been attached to another superhero project in recent times, being one of several directors tapped by 20th Century Fox for its long-planned Gambit movie, which – like Justice League Dark – is presently without a director.
