Drac and Mavis to return in The Haunting of Hotel Transylvania

July 14, 2026 by Ricky Church

Get ready to return to Hotel Transylvania next year as Sony Animation and Amazon MGM have announced a fifth film in the series, The Haunting of Hotel Transylvania, will hit theatres on October 8th, 2027.

The latest film comes after 2022’s fourth film Hotel Transylvania: Transformania saw Drac finally retiring and leaving the hotel’s operation to his daughter Mavis. Haunting of Hotel Transylvania will see the legendary castle and monster resort in unusual circumstances as it faces its very own haunting. Given the hotel’s clientele, it must be a very strange and dangerous ghost if it warrants concern from Drac, Mavis and their guests. The official synopsis reads:

Drac has happily settled into retirement while Mavis takes the reins of the legendary monster hotel. But when a series of spooky and unexplained happenings sends chills through the resort, the Drac Pack embarks on its most spellbinding adventure yet: uncovering the mystery behind the haunting of Hotel Transylvania.

Sony and Amazon partnered on Hotel Transylvania: Transformania during Covid so the film could release on Prime Video rather than release in theatres. As part of that deal, Amazon MGM would co-produce any further instalments in the franchise. Sony will handle theatrical distribution in North America and some international markets while Amazon MGM will oversee the international release.

The series has featured the voices of Adam Sandler, Selena Gomez, Andy Samberg, Steve Buscemi, David Spade, Keegan-Michael Key, Kevin James, Fran Drescher, Molly Shannon, Asher Blinkoff, Kathryn Hahn and Mel Brooks. Sandler was unable to voice Dracula in Transformania due to scheduling conflicts along with Kevin James as Frankenstein, leaving them to be replaced by Brian Hull and Brad Abrell. The voice cast for Haunting of Hotel Transylvania has yet to be confirmed so it is unknown if Sandler, James and any others of the original cast are returning.

“From the beginning, Hotel Transylvania has invited audiences into a world where monsters feel like family,” said Kristine Belson and Damien de Froberville, Presidents of Sony Pictures Animation. “These films have been a cornerstone of Sony Animation’s storytelling identity, blending a unique visual style with heartfelt, character-driven comedy. With this next installment, we’re honoring that legacy of heart and humor while delivering the unexpected surprises audiences love. We’re delighted to partner with Amazon MGM Studios to bring the Drac Pack back to theatres for families around the world.”

“Hotel Transylvania is one of those rare franchises that has become a beloved tradition for families around the world – a film series that has always balanced irreverent humor with genuine heart. We’re thrilled to collaborate with Sony Pictures Animation to bring the Drac Pack back to the big screen and continue this legacy of inventive, character-driven storytelling that audiences have embraced for over a decade,” said Courtenay Valenti, Head of Film for Amazon MGM Studios.

The Haunting of Hotel Transylvania will be released October 8th, 2027.
