Dune: Spice Wars gets The House Vernius of Ix DLC and free major update

March 19, 2024 by Andrew Newton

Shiro Games and publisher Funcom have released the first DLC for Dune: Spice Wars. This new post-launch DLC, titled The House Vernius of Ix, is accompanied by the new Heroes of Dune free update and both additions will expand the game’s already rich universe.

The House Vernius of Ix DLC introduces the Ixians as the game’s seventh faction.  This new faction hails from the technologically advanced Ixian Confederation and is led by the cybernetically enhanced Rhombur Vernius.

The Ixians provide new playstyles for players to explore, these focus on research and diplomacy. Despite these more peaceful ways to victory, don’t be fooled into thinking they are a pushover as they have the ability to control a larger number of drones than any other faction plus they have a unique way of being able to control and limit their opponent’s technology. Ixians have a reduced reliance on water, making them very effective on the harsh planet of Arrakis, however, alliances are essential to their success.

The Heroes of Dune update brings legendary heroes to the game. Each faction will offer a choice of two heroes that players can control. There will be fourteen heroic characters that players will have the opportunity to involve, including Duncan Idaho, Gurney Halleck, Chani Kynes and Otheym.  Each of these heroes will have their own active skill, global effect and localised effects.  The update also provides improvements to combat, making it more accessible to players of all skill levels.

Both the Heroes of Dune update and The House Vernius of Ix DLC are available to purchase on Steam and Xbox X/S.
