Dwayne Johnson celebrates Hobbs & Shaw beating an Avengers: Endgame box office record

September 5, 2019 by Samuel Brace

Fast & Furious: Hobbs & Shaw has beaten one of Avengers: Endgame’s box office records for 2019 and Dwayne Johnson is celebrating.

Avengers: Endgame has become the highest-grossing movie of all time around the world, collecting numerous other box office records in the process. One of these was for 2019, where it shared the most consecutive weekends at number one worldwide with Spider-Man: Far From Home and Captain Marvel.

The record stood at three weekends but now Hobbs & Shaw has gone and bested it by being the world number one movie for four consecutive weekends. Star Dwayne Johnson is certainly happy about that fact and he took to social media to celebrate:

“Thank you guys so so much for the incredible love and the incredible support…that you’ve shown Hobbs & Shaw. This past weekend, you made Hobbs & Shaw the number one movie in the world for four weekends in a row. That, ladies and gentleman, boys and girls, children of all ages, is a brand new 2019 record. The previous record held by our favorite super heroes: Avengers, Spider-Man, Captain Marvel. They held it for three weekends in a row and we have now set a new record. Four weekends in a row.”

Hobbs & Shaw might not be up to Endgame‘s box office standards overall but it is certainly pulling in plenty of cash in its own right. The Avengers can sleep soundly, however, knowing that their overall record will be safe for some time.

Ever since hulking lawman Hobbs (Johnson), a loyal agent of America’s Diplomatic Security Service, and lawless outcast Shaw (Statham), a former British military elite operative, first faced off in 2015’s Furious 7, the duo have swapped smack talk and body blows as they’ve tried to take each other down.

But when cyber-genetically enhanced anarchist Brixton (Idris Elba) gains control of an insidious bio-threat that could alter humanity forever — and bests a brilliant and fearless rogue MI6 agent (The Crown’s Vanessa Kirby), who just happens to be Shaw’s sister — these two sworn enemies will have to partner up to bring down the only guy who might be badder than themselves.

Hobbs & Shaw blasts open a new door in the Fast universe as it hurtles action across the globe, from Los Angeles to London and from the toxic wasteland of Chernobyl to the lush beauty of Samoa.

Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw is directed by David Leitch (John Wick, Deadpool 2) sees the return of Dwayne Johnson (Luke Hobbs), Jason Statham (Deckard Shaw) and Helen Mirren (Magdalene Shaw) alongside franchise newcomers Idris Elba (Luther), Vanessa Kirby (Mission: Impossible – Fallout), Eddie Marsan (Ray Donovan), and Eiza Gonzalez (Baby Driver).
