Eddie Murphy and Shawn Ryan to produce a Beverly Hills Cop TV pilot for CBS

September 4, 2012 by admin

CBS has offered a pilot production commitment to a TV series based upon Beverly Hills Cop, which is to be executive produced by Eddie Murphy and Shawn Ryan (The Shield, The Unit) on behalf of Sony TV. According to Deadline, the series will serve as a sequel to the feature film trilogy and is set to centre on “Axel Foley’s blue-collar police officer son, Aaron, who helps take down the criminal elements of the rich and famous in Beverly Hills, while trying to escape the shadow of his larger than life father.”

The pilot for Beverly Hills Cop will be scripted by Ryan – whose other television credits include Nash Bridges, Angel, Lie to Me, The Chicago Code and Last Resort – and he will also serve as showrunner should the project make it past the pilot stage. Meanwhile, in addition to executive producing, Murphy will reprise his signature role as Foley in the pilot episode, with a view to becoming a recurring guest star should Beverly Hills Cop receive a full season order.
