Edgar Wright exits Marvel’s Ant-Man

May 23, 2014 by Gary Collinson

Having spent close to a decade developing an adaptation of Marvel’s miniature superhero Ant-Man, it has just been announced that British filmmaker Edgar Wright (The World’s End) has now left the project owing to creative differences with Marvel Studios.

“Marvel and Edgar Wright jointly announced today that the studio and director have parted ways on Ant-Man due to differences in their vision of the film,” reads an official statement. “The decision to move on is amicable and does not impact the release date on July 17th, 2015. A new director will be announced shortly.”

Considering the length of time Ant-Man has been in development, it’s a little strange that the two parties have only just realised their vision from the film differs from one another, and there’s bound to be a sense of disappointment from fans who have been patiently waiting on Wright’s adaptation since it was first announced back in 2006.

Ant-Man will see Paul Rudd (Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues) leading the cast as Scott Lang alongside Michael Douglas (Behind the Candelabra) as Hank Pym, while Patrick Wilson (Watchmen), Evangeline Lilly (The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug), Corey Stoll (House of Cards), Matt Gerald (Escape Plan) and Michael Pena (American Hustle) are also set to feature.
