Eli Roth’s Borderlands movie rounds out cast with Gina Gershon, Cheyenne Jackson and more

April 30, 2021 by Liam Waddington

With the Eli Roth-directed adaptation of the popular video game franchise Borderlands currently in production, Lionsgate has announced yet more casting news.

According to Deadline, Borderlands has rounded out its cast by adding Gina Gershon as Moxxi, Cheyenne Jackson as Jakobs, Charles Babalola as Hammerlock, Benjamin Byron Davis as Marcus, Steven Boyer as Scooter, Ryann Redmond as Ellie, and Bobby Lee in the new role of Larry.

The names above will join the already announced cast of Jamie Lee Curtis as Tannis, Cate Blanchett as Lilith, Kevin Hart as Roland, Jack Black as Claptrap, Ariana Greenblatt as Tiny Tina, Florian Munteanu as Krieg, Haley Bennett as a newly created character who is key to Lilith’s past, Edgar Ramirez as the villainous Atlas, and Janina Gavankar as the new character, Commander Knoxx.

Director Eli Roth provided a statement on the latest hirings for his video game adaptation: “I am so excited to work with this incredible, top notch cast. Every single part counts and elevates the film and we have the best of the best coming in to really make Borderlands spectacular. I love movies where every character counts and you can only achieve that with a great cast. Every one of these gifted actors will bring something special to the film.”

The Borderlands movie is set to be directed by Eli Roth with Avi and Ari Arad producing along with Erik Feig, executive producer of the video game franchise and founder of Gearbox Software Randy Pitchford will serve as executive producer on the adaptation. Craig Mazin, who won an Emmy for writing Chernobyl, has written the latest draft for the film.

“Lilith (Blanchett), an infamous outlaw with a mysterious past, reluctantly returns to her home planet of Pandora to find the missing daughter of the universe’s most powerful S.O.B., Atlas (Ramirez). Lilith forms an alliance with an unexpected team – Roland (Hart), a former elite mercenary, now desperate for redemption; Tiny Tina (Greenblatt), a feral pre-teen demolitionist; Krieg (Munteanu), Tina’s musclebound, rhetorically challenged protector; Tannis (Curtis), the scientist with a tenuous grip on sanity; and Claptrap (Black), a persistently wiseass robot. These unlikely heroes must battle alien monsters and dangerous bandits to find and protect the missing girl, who may hold the key to unimaginable power. The fate of the universe could be in their hands – but they’ll be fighting for something more: each other.”
