More from Emily Blunt on Captain Marvel casting rumours and why she turned down Black Widow and Peggy Carter roles

December 30, 2014 by Gary Collinson

A few days ago, Emily Blunt addressed the rumours linking her to Marvel Studios’ first female-led superhero movie Captain Marvel, which is due to arrive in 2018 as part of Phase Three of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Now, during an interview with Vulture to promote her new film Into the Woods, the British actress has once again spoken about the speculation, as well as revealing why she previously turned down the opportunity to play both Black Widow and Peggy Carter.

“No one’s offered me [Captain Marvel] officially, so it’s … [laughs] very unofficial. I think it’s fan-casting, which is always very nice. But nothing official has been offered, for sure.”

So, nothing official in terms of an offer, but that doesn’t mean she hasn’t been speaking to Marvel, right?

As for turning down roles in Iron Man 2 and Captain America: The First Avenger: Blunt stated that: “It was never the right time, really, and it just didn’t work out scheduling-wise with those two,” Blunt said. “It’s always a difficult thing to talk about, because it’s not fair to the actresses who ended up playing them, you know? It just wasn’t the right time.”
