Everyone wants a piece of Texas Chainsaw as rights battle picks up

June 7, 2025 by EJ Moreno

Glen Powell. Jordan Peele. Oz Perkins. Taylor Sheridan. Those are the names that want their chance to bring Leatherface to the big screen.

Per Deadline, the bidding war for the rights to a new Texas Chainsaw Massacre film has picked up steam. In the battle administered by Verve, the agency that has represented the rights to the slasher franchise since 2017, quite a few top contenders are vying for their share of this horror pie.

The outlet notes that Taylor Sheridan’s name has gained steam, with the filmmaker having his roots in Texas and a passion for the project. Oz Perkins and Neon have also been circling the new Texas Chainsaw Massacre, as well as Jordan Peele’s Monkeypaw. The latter already has a production deal with Universal.

The list goes on and on with Strange Darling‘s J.T. Mollner and A Minecraft Movie & Weapons producer Roy Lee also joining the competition. It was also rumored that A24 and TX native Glen Powell were involved in discussions, but Powell wouldn’t star in the project, but would serve as producer.

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre franchise has amassed over $251 million in worldwide box office revenue across its various film installments. The most commercially successful film in the series is the 2003 remake, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, which achieved a global box office gross of over $107 million.

Stay tuned for more updates on this hotly contested IP battle.
