Ewan McGregor is keen on a couple of Obi-Wan Kenobi Star Wars spinoffs

October 13, 2016 by Gary Collinson

Since briefly reprising the role of Obi-Wan Kenobi for a single line of dialogue in last year’s Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Ewan McGregor has said on multiple occasions that he’d like to return as the venerable Jedi Knight for a Star Wars Anthology movie, and he’s been at it again this week during an interview with Premiere (via Den of Geek).

“I’ve always thought there was a story to tell between my last one and Alec Guinness’ first one,” said McGregor. “It would be fun to film that story now I’m older. I’d be the right age. I’m forty-five, Alec Guinness was what, sixty? I could do two of them (laughs)! I hope that they’re going to explore different genres under the Star Wars banner. And one of those could be an Obi-Wan Kenobi feature film. Or two! The Obi-Wan Kenobi Story Part 1 and Part 2!”

Previous rumours have suggested that McGregor had signed on for a trilogy of Obi-Wan movies (which looks to have been a fabrication given we’ve heard nothing about it in the intervening year), and could also appear in Star Wars: Episode VIII, presumably as a Force ghost. Whether that turns out to be true remains to be seen, but given his enthusiasm – and the popularity of the character – it would seem all but assured that we’ll see McGregor’s Kenobi back on the big screen at some point.
