Exclusive Interview – Disney’s Monsters At Work director Stephen Anderson

July 14, 2021 by Gary Collinson

Martin Carr chats with director Stephen Anderson about his work on the new Disney+ animated series Monsters At Work…

Stephen Anderson is a Disney veteran of numerous animated features, who has served as a story supervisor, story artist and director during his tenure at the Mouse House. With involvement on projects including Moana, Frozen and The Emperor’s New Groove to his name, as well as directing credits on Meet the Robinsons and Winnie the Pooh, he has seen the company evolve from the inside.

With his latest project Monsters At Work, he stepped up to direct once more, helping bring Mike and Sully back to life for a new generation. He recently took time out to discuss the new series with Martin Carr and why Disney is still his first choice, even after two decades. Watch the interview here, and be sure to follow us on YouTube for more exclusive videos and content…

“Monsters At Work” takes place the day after the Monsters, Incorporated power plant started harvesting the laughter of children to fuel the city of Monstropolis, thanks to Mike and Sulley’s discovery that laughter generates ten times more energy than screams. It follows the story of Tylor Tuskmon, an eager young monster who graduated top of his class at Monsters University and always dreamed of becoming a Scarer until he lands a job at Monsters, Incorporated, and discovers that scaring is out and laughter is in. After Tylor is temporarily reassigned to the Monsters, Inc. Facilities Team (MIFT), he must work alongside a misfit bunch of mechanics while setting his sights on becoming a Jokester.

Monsters At Work features the return of Monsters, Inc. voice actors Billy Crystal (Mike), John Goodman (Sully), Bonnie Hunt (Ms. Flint), John Ratzenberger (Yeti), Jennifer Tilly (Celia Mae) and Bob Peterson as Roze, twin sister to his original character Roz, while newcomers to the franchise includes Ben Feldman, Mindy Kaling, Henry Winkler, Lucas Neff, Alanna Ubach, Stephen Stanton, and Aisha Tyler.

Monsters At Work airs on Wednesdays on Disney+.
