Exclusive Interview: Voice actor Billy West on Space Jam’s 25th anniversary, Bugs Bunny and Futurama

June 18, 2021 by Ricky Church

This year marks a big milestone for the Looney Tunes. Not only do they have Space Jam: A New Legacy coming to theatres this summer, but this year is also the 25th anniversary of the original Space Jam which saw Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck and the rest of the Tunes team up with NBA legend Michael Jordan in a basketball game against an amusement park tycoon who wanted to enslave the Tunes for his business.

Space Jam will be released on 4K Ultra HD on July 6th to coincide with its 25th anniversary and its sequel. To help celebrate the milestones, we sat down with voice acting legend Billy West who played the parts of the iconic Bugs Bunny and Elmer Fudd in Space Jam. With a career spanning over 30 years, West spoke about the legacies of Bugs Bunny and Looney Tunes as well as his other famous roles which include animated series such as Doug, Ren & Stimpy, CatDog and, of course, Futurama where West played fan-favourite characters like Fry, Professor Farnsworth, Zoidberg and Zapp Brannigan. Watch out interview below…

Six-time NBA champion Michael Jordan and Looney Tunes linchpin Bugs Bunny star in the family comedy classic that introduced a whole new dimension of entertainment. The film also stars Wayne Knight, Theresa Randle, and the voice of Danny DeVito. Bill Murray, Larry Bird, Charles Barkley, and Patrick Ewing appear as themselves. Space Jam was produced by Ivan Reitman and directed by Joe Pytka.

The world’s greatest legends collide in a future universe with Jordan as a live-action hero entering a spectacular animated world. Captured by Bugs Bunny to foil a ghastly gang of space creatures, Jordan must play the basketball game of his life to save the beloved cartoon heroes from a hideous kidnapping scheme.

Space Jam will be released on 4K Ultra HD July 6th.
