Exclusive: Lia McHugh on working with the all-star cast of Marvel’s Eternals

February 4, 2020 by Amie Cranswick

Currently appearing in cinemas alongside Riley Keough and Jaeden Martell in The Lodge, young actress Lia McHugh is set to return to the big screen later this year as she joins the Marvel Cinematic Universe with her role as Sprite in Eternals.

During the press tour for The Lodge, Flickering Myth’s Rob Kojder got the chance to speak to Lia about the Marvel film, and how she found working alongside the movie’s all-star cast.

“They were all so amazing to work with and to just be around,” said McHugh. “I definitely had a lot of fun with Kumail Nanjiani. The nature of our characters was very friendly, so we had really fun banter on-set. I definitely loved working with Salma Hayek and Angelina Jolie and Richard Madden and I started learning sign language. Lauren Ridloff is so sweet and I loved getting to know her and her family. Ma Dong-seok was so kind to me. I loved working with him. Everyone was great, especially the director [Chloe Zhao], Barry [Keoghan], Brian [Tyree Henry], everyone was so fun to work with.”

Filming on Eternals is now in its final stages, with several of the cast members having already wrapped production ahead of the movie’s release this November. Presumably we can expect a first trailer around the time of the release of Black Widow in late April/early May.

Be sure to check back at Flickering Myth later today for our full interview with Lia and her The Lodge co-star Jaeden Martell.

Marvel Studios’ The Eternals features an exciting new team of Super Heroes in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, ancient aliens who have been living on Earth in secret for thousands of years. Following the events of Avengers: Endgame, an unexpected tragedy forces them out of the shadows to reunite against mankind’s most ancient enemy, The Deviants.

Eternals is being directed by Chloe Zhao (The Rider) and features a cast that includes Angelina Jolie (Maleficent), Richard Madden (Bodyguard), Don Lee (Train to Busan), Salma Hayek (The Hitman’s Bodyguard), Lauren Ridloff (The Walking Dead), Brian Tyree Henry (Child’s Play), Lia McHugh (American Woman), Kumail Nanjiani (The Big Sick), Kit Harington (Game of Thrones), Gemma Chan (Captain Marvel) and Barry Keoghan (Dunkirk). It is set for release on November 6th 2020.
