Freaky and Happy Death Day director interested in rebooting Jekyll and Hyde

November 19, 2020 by Liam Waddington

With Universal Pictures attempting to reboot several of its classic monster properties following the successful release of Leigh Whannell’s The Invisible Man, another director has revealed his potential interest in working on a property in Universal’s extensive library.

In an interview with Entertainment Tonight when discussing monster reboots, Freaky and Happy Death Day director Christopher Landon has expressed his interest in rebooting Jekyll and Hyde.

“Jekyll and Hyde. That’s the one I would love to do,” Landon said. “Look, I mean, Leigh Whannell already has the best one, he made the best one. The Invisible Man was just a total home run and I think he’s gonna do the same thing with Wolf Man. So he’s got that corner. But I think Jekyll and Hyde would be a lot of fun because it’s just, as a concept, there’s a lot to mine there and I think it’s genuinely scary because I think we all kind of feel like we’ve got monsters inside us.”

Following on from the critical and financial success of the reimagining of The Invisible Man, Universal’s Classic Monsters film library is set to expand even more with Whannell been tapped to helm the new take on The Wolf Man starring Ryan Gosling, while Jennifer’s Body and The Invitation director Karyn Kusama is set to direct a “faithful adaptation” of Bram Stoker’s Dracula.
