G.I. Joe spinoff Snake Eyes delayed to 2021

July 28, 2020 by Liam Waddington

It looks like yet another 2020 film has been pushed back to 2021 due to the ongoing global health crisis, as G.I. Joe spinoff Snake Eyes has lost its original October 23rd, 2020 release and will now arrive at some point next year.

While there has been no official confirmation by Paramount or Hasbro as of yet, according to The Hollywood Reporter, Hasbro chairman and CEO Brian Goldner told analysts during a Hasbro quarterly earnings report that the new G.I. Joe movie is now eyeing a 2021 debut.

“We’re working out the specifics with Paramount,” Goldner said.

Henry Golding, who is set to star as the titular character Snake Eyes, revealed earlier this year that principal photography had wrapped on the origin story of the ninja commando while claiming the film is “going to blow everyone’s socks off.”

Snake Eyes is being directed by Robert Schwentke (R.I.P.D.) from a script by Evan Spiliotopoulos (Beauty and the Beast) and features a cast that includes Henry Golding (Last Christmas) as Snake Eyes, Andrew Koji (Warrior) as Storm Shadow, Iko Uwais (The Raid) as Hard Master, Úrsula Corberó (Money Heist) as The Baroness, Samara Weaving (Ready or Not) as Scarlett and Haruka Abe (Ideal), Takehiro Hira (Hara-Kiri: Death of a Samurai), and Steven Allerick (The Expanse) in unrevealed roles.
