Gears of War: E-Day trailer takes us back to the Locust War’s origin

June 10, 2024 by Ricky Church

Marcus Fenix and Dom Santiago are reunited as The Coalition revealed an announcement trailer for Gears of War: E-Day, the next video game in the Gears of War franchise that will take players back to the very beginning of the Locust War.

First released in 2006, Gears of War took place on the planet Sera after an underground race called the Locust Horde burst from the ground and began an invasion, forcing the Coalition of Ordered Governments to scorch most of the planet in the hopes to kill the Locust. 14 years later Marcus Fenix, a former COG soldier, is taken out of prison and placed back in the army for a mission that could potentially kill the Locust for food and save humanity.

Gears of War: E-Day will take place on what is known as Emergence Day, the day the Locust came to the surface and began their war against humanity.

Experience the brutal horror of Emergence Day through the eyes of Marcus Fenix in the origin story of one of gaming’s most acclaimed sagas.

Fourteen years before Gears of War, war heroes Marcus Fenix and Dom Santiago return home to face a new nightmare: the Locust Horde. These subterranean monsters, grotesque and relentless, erupt from below, laying siege on humanity itself.

Built from the ground up with Unreal Engine 5, Gears of War: E-Day delivers unprecedented graphical fidelity.

This marks the first Gears of War game since 2019’s Gears 5. The franchise has spanned several video games, including the RTS Gears Tactics, comics, books and more. The series features another prequel titled Gears of War: Judgement, which followed Marcus and Dom’s comrade Damon Baird in the early days of the war.

Gears of War: E-Day will be released for Xbox Series X/S and PC. A release window has not been made known yet.

What do you think of the news? Are you excited to see the events of E-Day and revisit Marcus and Dom or would you have preferred a continuation of the Gears 5 story? Let us know on our social channels at @FlickeringMyth…
