Ghostbusters: Back in Town comic series to bridge Afterlife and Frozen Empire

November 18, 2023 by Gary Collinson

Coming hot on the heels of the Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire trailer, Dark Horse Comics has announced that it will bridge the gap between 2021’s Ghostbusters: Afterlife and its upcoming sequel with a four-issue limited series entitled Ghostbusters: Back in Town, launching in March 2024.

“Our friends at Dark Horse have picked up the Spengler family and hand delivered them to Manhattan where they will begin their journey back into Ghostbusting,” said Afterlife director and Frozen Empire producer and co-writer Jason Reitman. “It has been a personal thrill to collaborate with this incredible group of artists and storytellers on new chapters in the proton jungle.”

Ghostbusters: Back in Town is written by David Booher (Killer Queens) with art by Blue Delliquanti (Across a Field of Starlight), colors by by Mildred Louis (Rick and Morty) and Cris Peter (Critical Role: The Tales of Exandria), and letters by Jimmy Betancourt of Comicraft. The synopsis reads:

A year and a half after the events of Ghostbusters: Afterlife, the Ghostbusters are officially back in business and headed to where it all began: New York City! Callie, Gary, Trevor, and Phoebe are moving into the Firehouse and ready to take on the Spengler family business…or are they? Ghostbusting on top of changing family dynamics has a way of going awry––and that’s exactly what one paranormal force is counting on.

Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire finds the Spengler family returning to where it all started, the iconic New York City firehouse, to team up with the original Ghostbusters, who’ve developed a top-secret research lab to take busting ghosts to the next level. But when the discovery of an ancient artifact unleashes an evil force, Ghostbusters new and old must join forces to protect their home and save the world from a second Ice Age.

Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire sees McKenna Grace, Finn Wolfhard, Carrie Coon, Paul Rudd, Celeste O’Connor and Logan Kim reprise their Ghostbusters: Afterlife roles alongside franchise veterans Ernie Hudson, Bill Murray and Dan Aykroyd and new additions Kumail Nanjiani and Patton Oswalt.

Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire will be released March 29th, 2024.
