Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 2 likely won’t feature The Collector

January 12, 2016 by Robert Kojder

In a recent interview with ComingSoon, Benicio del Toro wasn’t very optimistic about the chances of him reprising his role as The Collector in 2017’s Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 2.

When questioned for an update on potentially returning, the actor said “I don’t think so, they would have told me, I hope… I do hope to play that character again at some point.”

Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol.2 is slated to begin filming this month, which is also when Star Wars: Episode VIII production starts. Most importantly, however, is that Benicio del Toro has signed on for a super-secret villain role in the eighth installment of the Star Wars Saga – so it was always going to be difficult for him to take part in both sequels.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is scheduled for release on April 28th 2017 in the UK and on May 5th in the States, with director James Gunn reuniting with returning cast members Chris Pratt (Star-Lord), Zoe Saldana (Gamora), Dave Bautista (Drax), Bradley Cooper (Rocket), Vin Diesel (Groot), Karen Gillan (Nebulda), Michael Rooker (Yondu) and Sean Gunn (Kraglin) alongside new addition Pom Klementieff (Oldboy).
