SHOWTIME A-HOLES

After a big opening around the world last weekend, James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 hit domestic theatres with a huge return. The film earned around $145 million domestically, which pushes its global total to $428 million. This means the movie should hit the half-billion dollar mark in the next few days. Read more here.

JANE WICK

Following the huge successes of both John Wick and John Wick Chapter Two, The Hollywood Reporter are saying that a “female John Wick” has found its director. Titled Peppermint, the film will be helmed by Taken‘s Pierre Morel from a script by Chad St. John (London Has Fallen). Read more about that here.

SQUAD 2

It didn’t appeal to many critics or fans, but Warner Bros. still have plans for a follow-up to last year’s Suicide Squad. There have been a couple of names in the director mix (including Mel Gibson and Jaume Collet-Serra), but during an interview for King Arthur: Legend of the Sword, Guy Ritchie has thrown his hat into the ring. “I quite fancy doing Suicide Squad 2, because I thought I could do a good job with it,” said Ritchie in an interview with Variety. “I can’t do it because I’m doing something else. But I’ve felt I could really do something with that.” Read more here.

SPIDER-RIGHTS

There is an on-going dispute between Marvel and Sony about the future of Spider-Man in the MCU, but Guardians of the Galaxy‘s Dave Bautista thinks Marvel Studios could get the character outright. “They’re doing a partnership now, but I think they will – I don’t know this for sure – but I think they’re going to re-acquire Spider-Man,” he said. LIVE DIE REPEAT AND REPEAT LIVE DIE REPEAT AND REPEAT

Remember the outcry from fans who claimed Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice was one of the worst movie titles ever conceived? Well, they didn’t see the title for Edge of Tomorrow 2 coming. When the film was released on DVD and Blu-Ray, Warner Bros. renamed Edge of Tomorrow (which had already had one name change during production) to Live.Die.Repeat, and it looks like they’re sticking with that via director Doug Liman, who has confirmed the sequel will be titled Live Die Repeat and Repeat. IT’S ALL CONNECTED

Although Kevin Fiege has always drilled into fans that #ItsAllConnected, we’ve yet to see characters from Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and the Netflix shows appear on the big screen. However in a new interview, the Marvel head honcho has revealed it could still be on the cards. “The future’s a long time,” he said. “So, the truth is, I don’t really know, but there are a lot of TV shows being made, and hopefully we’ll continue to make a lot of movies. At some point, there’s going to be a crossover. Crossover, repetition, or something.” Read more here.

JONES 2

Set photos from the second season of Jessica Jones landed online over the weekend, which you can see here.

ARTICLE OF THE WEEKEND

While he didn’t love the movie, Anghus Houvouras did love Michael Rooker’s Yondu, who he thinks is the best character in the MCU. Read the article here.
