Harold Faltermeyer and Hans Zimmer to score Top Gun: Maverick

October 21, 2018 by Gary Collinson

The official website for Hans Zimmer has revealed that the Oscar-winning composer will be teaming with Harold Faltermeyer, composer on the original Top Gun, to score the 2020 sequel Top Gun: Maverick.

Faltermeyer, who is probably best known for composing the ‘Axel F’ theme from Beverly Hills Cop, last worked with Cruise on the original Top Gun, while Zimmer has scored the likes of Rain Man, Days of Thunder, Mission: Impossible II and The Last Samurai.

Top Gun: Maverick was recently pushed back a year to 2020 to allow time for its cast to train for the flight sequences. Plot details are being kept under wraps, but we do know that Millers Teller (Whiplash) is set to play the son of Goose, who is training at the Top Gun academy under Cruise’s Pete ‘Maverick’ Mitchell.
