HBO confirms that Game of Thrones season 8 will be the last, potential spinoff “has to make sense creatively”

July 30, 2016 by Gary Collinson

During its Television Critics Association presentation, HBO has confirmed what Game of Thrones fans have long suspected, with programming chief Casey Bloys confirming that the eighth season will be its last.

HBO has recently confirmed that the upcoming seventh season will consist of just seven episodes, while showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss have previously suggested the tale would be wrapped up in 13 hours, meaning season eight will likely just consist of six.

Meanwhile, Bloys was also asked about the possibility of a spinoff, stating that: “We’ve talked about it. It’s not something I’m not opposed to, but it has to make sense creatively. I’m open to it. The guys aren’t opposed to it, but there’s no concrete plans.”

Would you like to see a Game of Thrones spinoff, or should the fantasy epic run its natural course? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below…
