HBO’s The Last of Us series adds Jeffrey Pierce, Murray Bartlett and Con O’Neill

July 16, 2021 by Ricky Church

HBO’s series adaptation of the hit Naughty Dog video game The Last of Us has added three more actors to its cast. Per Deadline, the series will now star Jeffrey Pierce (Bosch), Murray Bartlett (The White Lotus) and Con O’Neill (Chernobyl). The series comes from Chernobyl creator Craig Mazin and Naughty Dog’s Vice President and Last of Us creative director Neil Druckmann.

Pierce will have the recurring role as Perry, a rebel in a quarantine zone. This actually marks a return for Pierce to The Last of Us franchise as he voiced Tommy, Joel’s younger brother, in both The Last of Us and its sequel The Last of Us Part II.

Bartlett will play Frank and O’Neill as Bill, two post-pandemic survivalists living alone in their own isolated town.

The trio join Pedro Pascal (The Mandalorian) and Bella Ramsey (Game of Thrones)in the series where they will play Joel and Ellie respectively with Gabriel Luna (Rogue One: A Star Wars Story) set to play Joel’s brother, Tommy. Merle Dandridge is reprising her video game role as Marlene and Nico Parker (The Third Day) is set to portray Joel’s daughter, Sarah.

The Last of Us is “set 20 years after modern civilization has been destroyed and centres on the relationship between Joel, a smuggler in this new world, and Ellie, a teenager who may be key to a cure for a deadly pandemic. Joel, a hardened survivor, is hired to smuggle the 14-year-old girl out of an oppressive quarantine zone. What starts as a small job soon becomes a brutal, heartbreaking journey as they traverse the U.S. and depend on each other for survival.”
