Hellraiser remake on the way from director David Bruckner

April 10, 2020 by EJ Moreno

The puzzle box will open once again with a new Hellraiser. The Hollywood Reporter has broken the story of SpyGlass Media planning to tackle the world of Pinhead and his Cenobites in a reimagining of the classic Clive Barker film.

David Bruckner, who directed the Sundance Film Festival favorite Night House as well as sections of horror anthologies V/H/S and Southbound, is reportedly helming the feature, with a screenplay by Ben Collins and Luke Piotrowski. David S. Goyer, a producer on Night House, is writing the story and producing via his Phantom Four banner alongside Keith Levine.

The cult classic found success in 1987 as Clive Barker took his novella, The Hellbound Heart, and morphed it into the sinister tale we all know today. Details on how Spyglass will tackle the project are not yet revealed, although THR reports that the company is describing the reboot as “loyal, yet evolved.”

Hellraiser is not the only iconic horror film on Spyglass’s radar, as last  year news broke that the company will take on Wes Craven’s slasher powerhouse Scream.
