The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies retains the UK box office crown

UK box office top ten and analysis for the weekend of Friday 19th to Sunday 21st December 2014…

Despite competition from comedy sequels Night at the Museum: The Secret of the Tomb and Dumber and Dumber To, it’s an unchanged top two at the UK box office heading into Christmas, with The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies retaining top spot with a second weekend haul of £5.41 million, and Paddington holding firm in second place with £2.51 million in its fourth weekend.

Turning to the new releases and Night at the Museum: The Secret of the Tomb debuted in third place with £2,513,675, followed by Dumb and Dumber To in fourth place with £807,059. Meanwhile, the only other newcomer to crack the top ten was PK, with the Bollywood comedy earning £649,812 to claim seventh.

6. The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1 – £673,220 weekend (5 weeks)

8. Nativity 3: Dude, Where’s My Donkey?! – £443,173 weekend (6 weeks)
9. The Imitation Game – £370,324 weekend (6 weeks)
10. Get Santa – £366,310 weekend (3 weeks)
