Incredibles 2 tracking an incredible opening weekend

April 26, 2018 by Gary Collinson

The Parr family make their heroic return to the big screen this summer as Disney-Pixar unleashes Incredibles 2, the hotly-anticipated sequel to Brad Bird’s 2004 animated superhero comedy classic The Incredibles.

The original movie opened with $70.5 million domestically, going on to gross $264.4 million in North America and $633 million worldwide, and according to Box Office Pro, the sequel can expect to do even better.

Early box office tracking for the movie has Incredibles 2 opening to $110 million in the U.S., with a total domestic gross in the region of $395 million. That could potentially put it ahead of Toy Story 3’s $110.3 million bow to give Pixar its second biggest domestic opening ever behind 2016’s Finding Dory on $135.1 million.

Finding Dory, which had a similar gap with Finding Nemo as the Incredibles movies, went on to earn just over $1 billion worldwide – a figure that is surely within reach of Incredibles 2 given how beloved the first instalment is, and the enormous popularity of superhero films.

In “Incredibles 2,” Helen (voice of Holly Hunter) is called on to lead a campaign to bring Supers back, while Bob (voice of Craig T. Nelson) navigates the day-to-day heroics of “normal” life at home with Violet (voice of Sarah Vowell), Dash (voice of Huck Milner) and baby Jack-Jack—whose superpowers are about to be discovered. Their mission is derailed, however, when a new villain emerges with a brilliant and dangerous plot that threatens everything. But the Parrs don’t shy away from a challenge, especially with Frozone (voice of Samuel L. Jackson) by their side. That’s what makes this family so Incredible.

Incredibles 2 is set for release on June 15th 2018 in the U.S. and July 13th 2018 in the UK.
