Indiana Jones 5 producer offers update on the film, promises Harrison Ford will be the only Indiana Jones

The long-planned fifth instalment of the Indiana Jones franchise has been plagued with a number of problems including a series of delays as well as director Steven Spielberg and screenwriter David Koepp both departing the project.

Now, in an interview with Den of Geek, Indiana Jones 5 producer Frank Marshall has offered an update on the project while also stating that Harrison Ford will be the only Indiana Jones.

“We are working on the script,” Marshall said. “There will only be one Indiana Jones and that’s Harrison Ford. What I’m excited about with Jim [Mangold] is a great story. I think you see that in his movies like Ford Vs Ferrari. It’s all about characters and telling a good story. So I’m excited to see what he comes up with. I haven’t seen (the script) yet so I don’t know what to tell you.”

Former Indiana Jones 5 writer David Koepp has previously revealed that when he was working on the project, the reason it kept getting delayed was down to nobody on the creative team being able to agree on the script as a result of the number of ideas being thrown around.

“I tried a couple of different versions with Steven and they all had some good stuff about them, and they all had some stuff that didn’t work, which happens,” Koepp said. “But it was just very hard to have everybody come together and have all the elements — Steven, Harrison Ford, the script, and Disney — come together at once. And it didn’t.”

Indiana Jones 5 will see director James Mangold helm Harrison Ford’s fifth outing as the archaeologist and adventurer Indiana Jones. The film is currently slated for a July 29th, 2022 release date.
