It set to lose box office top spot this weekend

September 20, 2017 by Samuel Brace

There won’t be three successive weeks on top for It as the horror sensation is set to lose its top spot at the US box office.

It’s been quite something to see, the new Stephen King adaptation of the popular horror novel It has really caught the public’s imagination and is proving to be a juggernaut at the box office.

But while it has been breaking numerous records, including becoming the highest grossing film ever to be released in September, it won’t manage to secure a third straight week as the box office king.

Two new entries look to be in line to slide past the 80s set horror film, with The LEGO Ninjago Movie and Kingsman: The Golden Circle making their debuts.

It will likely be a very close race for the top two spots with Ninjago predicted to bring in around $55 million and Kingsman roughly $52 million.

It won’t perform badly this weekend, but with a traditional third weekend drop it should fall to around $29 million according to estimates from movieweb.com. This is of course a terrific result and will likely see the movie climb into the top five highest grossing movies of 2017.

When children begin to disappear in the town of Derry, Maine, a group of young kids are faced with their biggest fears when they square off against an evil clown named Pennywise, whose history of murder and violence dates back for centuries.

It sees Andy Muschietti directing Bill Skarsgard (Hemlock Grove) as Pennywise alongside Jaeden Lieberher (St. Vincent), Finn Wolfhard (Stranger Things), Jack Dylan Grazer (Tales of Halloween), Wyatt Oleff (Guardians of the Galaxy), Chosen Jacobs (Cops and Robbers), Jeremy Ray Taylor (Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Road Chip), Owen Teague (Bloodline), Sophia Lillis (A Midsummer Night’s Dream) and Nicholas Hamilton (Captain Fantastic).
