James Gunn says Captain America: Civil War is “one of the best Marvel movies ever”; calls Tom Holland “off the charts awesome”

December 31, 2015 by Justin Cook

Since Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn has some time off for the holidays before he gets back to work on the sequel to his hugely successful Marvel film, he decided to host a live Q&A with his fans on Facebook, where he shared his thoughts on next year’s Captain America: Civil War.

In the first part of his Q&A video, around the 9:35 mark, Gunn praises the script for Doctor Strange when a fan brings up the film, but then shifts the conversation over to Civil War, which he has seen in full. On the film, he said, “I saw Civil War, and I think it’s incredible. It’s one of the best Marvel movies ever, and I can’t believe what a wonderful job the Russo Brothers did, and the cast. Oh my god, they’re so good. So it’s an amazing film, and people are going to be really excited to see that.”

About a minute after sharing his thoughts on the third installment in the Captain America series, Gunn began talking about Tom Holland, who is set to make his Marvel Cinematic Universe debut as Peter Parker/Spider-Man in the 2016 film. He obviously didn’t want to give too much away, but he did say that Holland is “off the charts awesome” and “amazing.”

Do Gunn’s comments get you even more excited for Captain America: Civil War? Does Tom Holland have the potential to be the next great MCU superhero? Let us know in the comments below…

Marvel’s “Captain America: Civil War” finds Steve Rogers leading the newly formed team of Avengers in their continued efforts to safeguard humanity. But after another incident involving the Avengers results in collateral damage, political pressure mounts to install a system of accountability, headed by a governing body to oversee and direct the team. The new status quo fractures the Avengers, resulting in two camps—one led by Steve Rogers and his desire for the Avengers to remain free to defend humanity without government interference, and the other following Tony Stark’s surprising decision to support government oversight and accountability.

Captain America: Civil War is set for release on April 29th 2016 in the UK and May 6th 2016 in the States, with Anthony and Joe Russo (Captain America: The Winter Soldier) directing a cast that includes Marvel Cinematic Universe veterans Chris Evans (Steve Rogers/Captain America), Robert Downey Jr. (Tony Stark/Iron Man), Anthony Mackie (Sam Wilson/Falcon), Jeremy Renner (Clint Barton/Hawkeye), Scarlett Johansson (Natasha Romanoff/Black Widow), Sebastian Stan (Bucky Barnes/The Winter Soldier), Elizabeth Olsen (Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch), Paul Bettany (The Vision), Don Cheadle (James Rhondes/War Machine), Paul Rudd (Scott Lang/Ant-Man), Emily VanCamp (Sharon Carter), Frank Grillo (Brock Rumlow/Crossbones) and William Hurt (General Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross) alongside new additions Chadwick Boseman (Get on Up) as T’Challa/Black Panther, Daniel Bruhl (Rush) as Baron Zemo, Martin Freeman (Sherlock) and Tom Holland (The Impossible) as Peter Parker/Spider-Man.
