James Gunn says Nebula is the Boba Fett of Guardians of the Galaxy

November 24, 2014 by Gary Collinson

Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy is out on DVD and Blu-ray today, and Yahoo! Movies caught up with director James Gunn during the press tour for the home-entertainment release, with Gunn taking a moment to discuss the villainous characters of the space opera – specifically, Karen Gillan’s Nebula, calling her “the Boba Fett of the film” and seemingly implying that we’ll be seeing plenty more of her in 2017’s Guardians of the Galaxy 2.

“I have so many plans for Nebula, in my personal life, and… I love Nebula. I fell in love with the design of Nebula. I cast the role around that design. I fell in love with Karen [Gillan] as a person, who I love, and I love the character of Nebula…. To me, she’s the Boba Fett of the movie, she’s the one that you really dig, she’s the cool one that we need to get more of, and I hope to god that we get a chance to see a lot, lot more of Nebula. She’s a layered character, she’s not good or bad, she has a lot of things she needs to learn.”

Are you looking forward to seeing more of Nebula?

Guardians of the Galaxy sees James Gunn directing a cast that includes Chris Pratt (The LEGO Movie) as Star-Lord, Zoe Saldana (Star Trek Into Darkness) as Gamora, Dave Bautista (Riddick) as Drax the Destroyer, Bradley Cooper (American Hustle) as Rocket Raccoon, Vin Diesel (Fast & Furious 6) as Groot, Benicio Del Toro (Sin City) as The Collector, Lee Pace (The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug) as Ronan the Accuser, Karen Gillan (Doctor Who) as Nebula, Djimon Hounsou (Blood Diamond) as Korath, John C. Reilly (Step Brothers) as Rhomman Dey, Michael Rooker (The Walking Dead) as Yondu, Glenn Close (Damages) as Nova Prime Rael and Josh Brolin (Men in Black 3) as Thanos.
