James Gunn is fresh off his first outing for DC with The Suicide Squad and since the film’s launch, fans have been speculating as to whether Gunn could return for another round of DCEU entertainment. and for a while, it seemed like he’d tackle Gotham City Sirens with Margot Robbie.
A recent THR article mentioned how Gunn could be a good fit for Gotham City Sirens, a team-up featuring Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn alongside Catwoman and Poison Ivy. From there, rumours began to swirl and has got fans buzzing enough to get the filmmaker to address the rumblings.
In a recent tweet, Gunn opened about this to a fan who tweeted out their concern, the filmmaker stating: “You might be getting ahead of yourself. Yes Margot & I have discussed working together again. “But I’ve never discussed nor considered GCS, so, therefore, speculative articles aside, haven’t encountered any rights issues around the non-existent project. No sobbing emojis needed.”

The plans for a Gotham City Sirens film have been in the works at DC since 2016, when Harley Quinn made her debut in David Ayer’s Suicide Squad. Ayer was originally on board to direct but the project was on hold by early 2020, and Robbie’s Harley went on to star in Birds of Prey and this year’s The Suicide Squad.
However, Robbie has stated in multiple interviews that she plans to tackle this iconic comic book team and wants to include the infamous Harley/Poison Ivy relationship. Could Gunn be the person to tackle the film? Sure, as of now, we’ll have to wait a little longer to see who directs Harley and her gang of bad-ass female villains if and when Gotham City Sirens becomes a reality.
