Jeff Minter’s psychedelic arcade shooter Akka Arrh coming to PS5 and PSVR 2

February 16, 2024 by Andrew Newton

Veteran, and dare I say legendary, game developer Jeff Minter (he of the most spectacular Llamasoft) and Atari have announced that the psychedelic arcade-style shooter Akka Arrh will release on the Playstation 5 and PS VR2 on 8th March.  Already available on Steam and other consoles, Akka Arrh will bring a tapestry of colours, shapes, patterns and wonderful neon to more players.

In Akka Arrh, players take control of a command centre facing a huge invading force.  In techno-infused action, players will start with bombs that trigger a number of chain reactions with bullets being accumulated when all enemies are defeated.  Each round challenges players to plan each shot with extreme care in order to maximise their high score.

The PS VR2 version will far surpass its 2D brethren and will immerse players in a whole new dimension of gameplay. A rich 3D psychadelic landscape will provide players with an unparalleled sensory experience.

Akka Arrh features:

  • Jeff Minter’s unique retro-inspired bliss.
  • Create combos, earn high scores and survive.
  • Cause huge chains of explosions and collect the ammo for precision shots.
  • 50 unique levels of frenzied kaleidoscopic action and arcade bliss.
  • Option to disable the intense visual effects for those sensitive to flashing lights.

As someone who played various Jeff Minter games involving camels and Llamas in the old days of gaming, Akka Arrh is a worthwhile addition to the Llamasoft catalogue.  Look out for its release on PlayStation 5 and PS VR2 on 8th March.
