Jenna Ortega says Wednesday season 2 will “get bolder, more dark”

June 7, 2023 by EJ Moreno

Jenna Ortega is taking on a bigger role in the next season of Netflix’s Wednesday. The actress will step into a producer role in the follow-up of the hit series and looks to give the series some new energy.

In an interview with Variety, Ortega sits down with actress/producer Elle Fanning about her new producer role, stating: Fanning, “This is my first time. It was a natural progression. With a character like Wednesday, who is so beloved, I didn’t want to get her wrong. So I tried to have as many conversations as possible with the writers. We’d decide what works and what doesn’t. In preparation for a second season, we wanted to make sure that we could start the conversations earlier. I’m just so curious: I want to see the outfits, new characters, scripts.”

As for the Wednesday new scripts and story ideas, Ortega notes the series will move in a darker direction with less focus on love: “It’s still coming together, but we’ve decided we want to lean into the horror more. We’re ditching any romantic love interest, which is really great. We’re going to get bolder, more dark.”

At the time of writing, there’s no official release date for Netflix’s Wednesday Season 2.

The series is a sleuthing, supernaturally infused mystery charting Wednesday Addams’ years as a student at Nevermore Academy. Wednesday’s attempts to master her emerging psychic ability, thwart a monstrous killing spree that has terrorized the local town, and solve the supernatural mystery that embroiled her parents 25 years ago — all while navigating her new and very tangled relationships at Nevermore.

Wednesday stars Jenna Ortega as Wednesday, Catherine Zeta-Jones as Morticia, Luis Guzmán as Gomez, Isaac Ordonez as Pugsley, and Fred Armisen as Uncle Fester alongside a cast that also includes Gwendoline Christie, Hunter Doohan, Percy Hynes White, Joy Sunday, Emma Myers, Riki Lindhome, Jamie McShane, Georgie Farmer, Naomi Ogawa, and Moosa Mostafa.
