Jessica Jones has put Krysten Ritter into a dark state of mind

February 28, 2018 by Samuel Brace

Star of Jessica Jones, Krysten Ritter, has said that the show has taken her to dark places, including a bout of depression.

Jessica Jones will at last receive its second season once the Marvel series comes back to Netflix on March 8th. Jones has been seen since her MCU debut, however, also appearing in The Defenders.

Ritter, who has received plenty of praise for her turn as the tragic superhero, has now revealed that the part hasn’t been all fun and games. Speaking to Newsweek, she explained her state of mind playing the character and how she is coping during season two:

“After Season 1, I was depressed,” said Ritter. “I’m a person who likes to feel light and free, and Jessica’s headspace is very dark. I had to learn how to manage my schedule filming Season 2, whether it’s knitting between takes or listening to music.”

While Ritter might be forced into a dark state of mind while performing on the show, at least she has found a way to combat such thinking this time around. And with such a twisted backstory as the one that belongs to Jessica, perhaps it’s not so surprising that it might have a negative impact on the actress.

New York City private investigator Jessica Jones (Krysten Ritter) is beginning to put her life back together after murdering her tormenter, Kilgrave. Now known throughout the city as a super-powered killer, a new case makes her reluctantly confront who she really is while digging deeper into her past to explore the reasons why.

The second season of Jessica Jones arrives on Netflix on March 8th and will see the return of Krysten Ritter as the hard-drinking super-powered private eye, along with Rachael Taylor (Trish Walker), Carrie-Anne Moss (Jeri Hogarth), Eka Darville (Malcolm Ducasse) and new cast members Janet McTeer and J.R. Ramirez. David Tennant is also confirmed as reprising the role of Kilgrave for one episode.
