John Carpenter suggests that Blumhouse is rebooting The Thing

August 24, 2020 by Liam Waddington

During this weekend’s Fantasia International Film Festival, director John Carpenter offered an update on the Blumhouse’s reboot of the iconic horror film, The Thing, as part of an online Masterclass Q&A panel.

“I think [Jason Blum’s] gonna be working on The Thing. Rebooting The Thing. I may be involved with that. Maybe. Down the road,” Carpenter said.

Carpenter is seemingly referring to the news from back in January, that Blumhouse Productions and Universal are developing an adaptation of Frozen Hell – the full-length version of the novella Who Goes There? that was only unearthed in 2018.

This alien horror story has already spawned three previous film adaptations across the years including Howard Hawks’ 1951 classic The Thing from Another World, Carpenter’s The Thing, and the 2011 film that served as a prequel to the Carpenter feature, starring Mary Elizabeth Winstead, also titled The Thing.

Are you looking forward to a brand-new take on The Thing from the original vision of the author John W. Campbell Jr.? Let us know on Facebook or Twitter @flickeringmyth…
